Stem Cell Research Could Cure Type1 Diabetes
President Obama has lifted restrictions on federal funding for research on embryonic stem cells, opening the way for potential cures and procedures. Some researchers are already making progress using adult cells as well as stem cells from umbilical cordblood — uncontroversial because they do not involve destroying embryos. As VOA’s Greg Flakus reports from Galveston, Texas, one research team is making progress on a treatment for people suffering from Type 1 diabetes.
